While this game provides an excellent "homework" assignment where students get
together and have fun playing and sharing their knowledge as they try to solve these maze puzzles. But this will
just as appealing to Professors as an in-class activity! ...which
is important because Professors make virtually all textbook purchasing decisions and
this game delivers a double-whammy of value to any professor who tries it.
Scenario: Professor Don, nearing the
end of his powerpoint lecture, has pretty much crashed about half his class--and the rest are looking pretty
bleary too...but THEN the next slide appears and students see: Off We Go -- Into The NeuroMaze!
Prof. Don says: "OK class, let's play a game". Up pops a question and students
begin stirring. This smallish class of 20 quickly breaks into 5 groups, with group taking turns to try and
find the maze exit. Amazingly, not only are the students awake--they
are excited, and fully engaged in peer-to-peer learning-- the best way to faciliate problem solving and knowledge
integration. Whenever the class does get stuck, Prof. Don provides clues and hints to deepen their thinking and finally...Voila!... the class exits the maze to great fanfare and receives as a Bonus Reward, all of the maze questions and answers, some of which will be on the upcoming midterm
exam!
